Sir John Barrow (1764-1848)

Sir John Barrow was Second Secretary to the Admiralty from 1805-1845 and was responsible for its Arctic exploration programme, including the search for a North West Passage. A member of the Raleigh Club, a dining club for the well-travelled, he was instrumental in the formation of the Royal Geographical Society in 1830.
